谈及深圳，可用的赞誉之词不一而足，而国际化绝对是特区绕不开的一个重要头衔。自上世纪80年代始，深圳与国际上重要城市开展友好合作、积极构建友城网络，在国际舞台上建立了庞大的“鹏”友圈。
“International” is one of Shenzhen’s outstanding features. Since the 1980s, Shenzhen has been cooperating with major international cities and actively building a network of sister cities on the international stage.
1985年2月1日，时任美国休斯敦市市长凯瑟琳·惠特曼致函深圳，正式提议与深圳结为友好城市。次年3月，在休斯敦市建市150周年之际，两市正式缔结友好城市，拉开了深圳缔结国际友城的序幕。资料显示，截至2022年9月，深圳已与全球五大洲57个国家的90个省市地区缔结了友好关系 (包括24对友城和66对友好交流城市)。
On February 1, 1985, the then mayor of Houston, Katherine Whitman, sent a letter to Shenzhen, formally proposing to establish a sister city relationship with Shenzhen. In March of the following year, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Houston, the two cities officially became sister cities. Archives show that by September 2022, Shenzhen had established friendship cities with 66 cities and sister cities with 24 cities from 57 countries on five continents.

“鹏”友有“难”，深圳来助。2021年底，欧洲暴发第四波新冠疫情，西欧上莱茵河三国都市区（该都市区与深圳是长期友好合作关系）急需大量测试试剂，在深圳市建筑科学研究院与大鹏新区的共同协助下，该都市区顺利采购到所需物资，解决了“燃眉之急”。深圳积极参与国际抗疫合作，是深圳与国际友城互惠互利、共赢发展的一个重要缩影。
A friend in need is a friend indeed. At the end of 2021, the three Rhine metropolitan areas, which have had long-term relationships with Shenzhen, were in urgent need of a large number of COVID-19 test kits due to the fourth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic. With the joint assistance of Shenzhen Institute of Building Research Co. Ltd. and Dapeng New District, the metropolitan area successfully purchased the necessary materials. Shenzhen’s active participation in international cooperation against COVID-19 is an important epitome of mutual-benefit and win-win development between Shenzhen and its international sister cities.

A special forest, which is called the “Friendship Forest of Shenzhen’s Sister Cities,” grows in the southwest of Shenzhen Central Park. It is planted by the representatives of Shenzhen’s sister cities. In the future, Shenzhen will make more international friends and strive to become a more attractive, vigorous and energetic international innovation city.
