Shenzhen, a city of the future and design, has long been recognized for its inclusive and diverse nature. It is these characteristics that have contributed to Shenzhen's reputation as a thriving metropolis for the fashion industry and preferred settlement destination for creative people.

On Saturday, the city kicked off its biannual fashion extravaganza — the A/W 2024 Shenzhen Fashion Week —with an opening forum and fashion show.

In the nine years since its inception, Shenzhen Fashion Week has become one of the most influential fashion events in the country. The theme for the 2024 autumn/winter edition is "RGB," which stands for the primary colors of red, green, and blue. A wide range of colors can be produced by combining the three primary colors, which symbolizes the myriad possibilities for the future of fashion in Shenzhen.

"More than 40 brands and designers from across the country will launch their latest collections during the fashion week alongside themed exhibitions, forums, contests, and events that either embody creativity or stimulate fashion-related consumption," Pan Ming, head of the Shenzhen Garment Industry Association, said at the forum.

At the forum, Shenzhen Fashion Week established a strategic partnership with Condé Nast, one of the world's most renowned media companies, that aims to promote the international development of Shenzhen's most important fashion event and attract more international designers, fashion brands, and media. Additionally, the partnership will bring an international perspective and innovative thinking to Shenzhen Fashion Week.

On Saturday evening, the opening show, themed around "the City of Freedom" and "Restart," took place at OCT Harbor in Nanshan District.

The show's runway was meticulously adorned with decorations and covered in straw-like carpeting that created an atmosphere of carefree relaxation. During the show, an audience of more than 800 people watched as models presented the autumn and winter collections of EITIE, a Shenzhen-based brand, and its sub-brand VIMAGE.

"This is actually my second year [attending Shenzhen Fashion Week]. I thought that the show was wonderful from start to finish," a U.S. audience member who identified himself as Jack told Shenzhen Daily.

"My friends are the designers for the brands, so I came here to support them. Both [brand] lines are fantastic. This is for the upcoming fall season. The outfits [range] from casual to professional, which I think is absolutely beautiful and going to do quite well," said Jack.

When asked about his views on Shenzhen's fashion industry, Jack said that Shenzhen is a contemporary city that is very young and vibrant. "I think fashion dictates here, and you can see that anywhere and everywhere," he explained.

The autumn/winter edition will run until April 21. In addition to the launch of new collections, more than 20 shopping malls and over 1,000 brands and stores are holding various activities to provide residents with a stimulating experience and favorable shopping terms.
