Micronesian president in town

The president of the Federated States of Micronesia, Wesley W. Simina, paid a visit to Shenzhen yesterday.


At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Simina is on a state visit to China from Friday to April 12.

Wesley W. Simina, president of the Federated States of Micronesia, visits Nanshan-headquartered Hytera Communications Corp. Ltd. yesterday. 


During the visit to Shenzhen, Simina and his entourage learned about the city's economic and social development and visited two local enterprises in a bid to promote friendly exchanges and practical cooperation between Micronesia and Shenzhen.


Simina and his delegation's first stop was Hytera Communications Corp. Ltd., a leading global provider of professional communications technologies and solutions headquartered in Nanshan District.

Simina tries a walkie talkie developed by Hytera. 


Simina exhibited great interest in the innovative products and solutions independently developed by Hytera and marveled at their extensive use across different sectors and around the world.


Simina believed that these technologies and solutions can be applied to the development of Micronesia.

Simina visits the Nanshan Energy Ecological Park yesterday. 


At the Nanshan Energy Ecological Park, Simina was surprised by Shenzhen's capability to turn waste into a renewable energy source through incineration. 


"This is what we need," Simina said after inspecting the park's advanced facilities. He looks forward to more exchanges and cooperation with Shenzhen on new energy in the future.


Guangdong Province was the Micronesian president's first stop during his China visit. Guangdong Governor Wang Weizhong met with Simina and his spouse in Guangzhou on Friday.


According to Wang, this year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Micronesia. He further noted that Guangdong will work with Micronesia to promote cooperation in various fields as well as the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Micronesia to better benefit the two peoples.

Simina watches an exhibition featuring exhibits made from recycled materials at the Nanshan Energy Ecological Park. 


Simina thanked Guangdong for its strong support and sincere help. He hoped to further strengthen cooperation with Guangdong in friendly provinces, marine fisheries, health care, education, and infrastructure to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.


Simina and his delegation left Shenzhen for Yantai, Shandong Province, yesterday afternoon.


This is Simina's first state visit to China since taking office, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a daily press briefing Wednesday.


During this visit, the leaders of the two countries will have an in-depth exchange of views on the development of bilateral ties and issues of common interest.
