A large roll-on/roll-off ship loaded with 3,258 new energy vehicles (NEVs) made by BYD left the Xiaomo International Logistics Port in the Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone yesterday, setting off for the Brazilian Port of Vitória.

A total of 14,415 NEVs were exported via the port so far, accounting for 72% of total vehicle exports in 2023, statistics from the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau showed yesterday.

Shenzhen is one of the first cities in the country to promote new energy vehicles. It possesses the most complete NEV industrial chain in the world and has formed an industrial closed loop.

As a new industrial city in Shenzhen, the Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone has also been active in the NEV industry.

The first phase of the Shenshan BYD Automotive Industrial Park, which includes 16 factory buildings, has begun operations. With 167 production lines running at full capacity, it has began to produce NEV components.

The cooperation zone plans to construct an NEV assembly and core components production base in the second phase.

Up to now, Shenshan has seen leading automotive manufacturing company BYD and over 20 enterprises in the NEV industrial chain settle in the zone.

According to the bureau, the Xiaomo port plans to export between 70,000 and 100,000 vehicles this year.

On Jan. 16, BYD's first roll-on/roll-off transport ship, "Explorer No. 1," made its maiden voyage from the port and opened its shipping line to Europe.
