China's leading TV manufacturer TCL will start mass production on its newly built panel production line in Guangming District at the end of this year, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

With an investment totaling 42.68 billion yuan (US$6 billion), TCL’s 11th generation (G11) panel production line t7 started construction Nov. 11, 2018.

It took less than five months to complete the roof sealing of the main plant and move the major equipment into place to prepare for the mass production, nearly one month ahead of the planned schedule, according to Shenzhen China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co. Ltd., a panel supplier owned by TCL.

Upon completion, the t7 project is expected to increase TCL’s market share in bigger displays globally. Meanwhile, it will enable TCL to better allocate its production resources in Shenzhen and help the city become the world’s largest semiconductor display industry base, according to the Daily report.

G11 panel production line currently represents the highest production level of the industry in the world, said the Daily. TCL owns two out of the five G11 panel production lines in China.

The production line is able to produce 65-inch, 75-inch and even greater-than-85-inch screens. In accordance with the most economical method of cutting, it can produce eight 65-inch or six 75-inch ultra-high-definition (UHD) displays per panel.

The launch of TCL’s new production line will fill the gap of 8K UHD products on the Chinese mainland market, and help domestic industry become a leader in the field globally, said the Daily.

According to a four-year government action plan to develop China’s UHD video industry, audiences in China can expect a feast for the eyes as a huge number of businesses bloom in the over-4-trillion-yuan UHD video industry in 2022.
