曾居住于大鹏所城的赖氏家族是深圳历史上的名门望族，其家族“三代五将”在中国历史上也属罕见，有“宋朝杨家将、清代赖家帮”的美誉。
The Lai clan that once lived in Dapeng Fortress is one of the most renowned clans in Shenzhen’s history. Known for the five Qing-Dynasty military generals that were members of the clan, its fame paralleled the Yang clan in the Northern Song Dynasty.
清雍正九年（公元1731年），赖氏先祖迁居至新安县大鹏古城乌涌村（今深圳市大鹏新区大鹏镇鹏城村）。定居于此的赖氏历经三代，出了五位将军，成为广东一带的杰出姓氏，与连平颜氏并称“文颜武赖”，更有“一门六进士，三代五将军”之佳话。
The ancestors of the Lai clan settled in Wuchong Village in Dapeng Fortress in Xin’an County, which is today’s Pengcheng Village in Dapeng Town, Dapeng New Area, in 1731. Among their descendants of the following three generations, five became military generals who made great contributions to homeland protection.
赖氏先祖的第三代孙赖世超曾任闽粤两省武举考官，被封为武功将军，他是“三代五将”中的第一将。赖世超之子赖英扬官至浙江定海镇总兵官，死后晋封“振威将军”；另一子赖信扬官至福建水师提督，封“安鹭将军”，官至一品。赖英扬、赖信扬与各自的儿子赖恩爵、赖恩锡共同构成了“三代五将”中的另四将。
Lai Shichao, the great-great-grandson of the Lai ancestors, was the first general among the five. The other four generals were his sons Lai Yingyang and Lai Xinyang, together with the former’s son Lai Enjue and the latter’s son Lai Enxi.
在赖氏家族“三代五将”中，当属赖恩爵贡献最大，威望最高，他是中国近代史上第一位与西方殖民者正面交锋的水师名将。赖恩爵一生大小海战战无不胜，特别是九龙海战，打响了鸦片战争“第一枪”。赖恩爵在九龙海战中建立了卓越功勋，指挥水师船暨九龙炮台击沉英军双桅船1艘，击毙英军30多人，助力九龙海战取得胜利，被道光皇帝赐予“呼尔察图巴图鲁”（满语，即“勇士”）称号。清道光二十四年（公元1844年），赖恩爵晋升为广东水师提督，御赐红顶花翎，从一品。
Among the five generals, Lai Enjue is the most well-known one due to his victories in battles on the sea. The first general who led the navies to fight with Western colonists in China’s modern history, he made exceptional contributions in the Battle of Kowloon by commanding the navies to sink a two-masted vessel of the British navy, killing over 30 British invaders and thus helping China to win the battle. In 1844, he was promoted to head of the Guangdong navy.

如今，在大鹏新区一带仍会举办追念英烈的习俗——大鹏清醮。大鹏清醮是大鹏所城酬谢神恩、祈求神灵保佑平安、为安抚阵亡无名将士和出海罹难等灾难性死亡的魂灵而举行的大型祭奠活动，人们也以此纪念赖恩爵将军在挽救民族危亡的斗争作出的重要贡献。
Today, local residents in Dapeng New Area still hold ceremonies on a regular basis to pay homage to gods and heroes and pray for peace and safety. As a hero who made substantial contributions to saving his homeland from invasions, General Lai Enjue is and will be remembered and loved by the local people.
