很少有人知道，罗湖区曾有一座罗湖山。这座山于1980年底被推平，它的消失与深圳经济特区的改革开放历程密切相关。
Few people know that there was once a Luohu Mountain in Luohu District. It was bulldozed at the end of 1980, and its disappearance was closely related to the reform and opening up of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
为什么罗湖山会被推平呢？原因有三：
Why was Luohu Mountain bulldozed? There are three reasons.
一是罗湖山紧靠口岸，在一定程度上影响了招商引资。
One is that Luohu Mountain was close to the port, which impacted investment promotion.
深圳建市之初，广大爱国侨胞、港澳同胞、外国商人和企业家从罗湖口岸进入深圳后，第一站便是罗湖区，但罗湖山正好”挡”在罗湖口岸前，妨碍了火车站和口岸的进一步发展。铲平罗湖山，能够有效减少地形对招商引资的限制。
In the early years after Shenzhen City was established, Luohu was the first stop for patriotic overseas Chinese, compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao, foreign businessmen and entrepreneurs after entering the city. But Luohu Mountain “blocked” the Luohu port, preventing the further development of the railway station and the port. Bulldozing Luohu Mountain could effectively contribute to investment promotion.
二是罗湖区的水患严重。“罗湖”一名源自罗湖村。该村处于深圳火车站东侧，是来深人员了解深圳的一扇”窗口”，但这扇”窗口”却饱受水患之苦。罗湖区整体地势处于洼地，加上周边水系汇聚，一到雨季便水患泛滥，让深圳形象受损。而罗湖山的山土正好可以用来填平洼地，解决水患，提升深圳城市面貌。
Second, Luohu District was often seriously damaged by flooding, which undermined the image of Shenzhen. The name “Luohu” originates from Luohu Village, which was located on the east side of the Shenzhen Railway Station. A “window” for people to know more about Shenzhen, the village had been suffering from flooding for a long time. The overall topography of Luohu District is that of a low-lying land, and with the convergence of the surrounding water systems, the district was frequently flooded during the rainy seasons, which damaged the image of Shenzhen. Therefore, the soil of Luohu Mountain was used to fill in the depressions, resolve the flood issues and improve the image of Shenzhen City.

三是罗湖山铲平后，将提供更多的城市建设用地。
Third, more land for urban construction could be provided after Luohu Mountain was leveled.
城市要建设，就离不开土地。深圳经济特区诞生之初，就开始了大规模城市基础设施建设。在专家的建议下，”首战”地点选择了罗湖区。被罗湖山填平的洼地可以为罗湖区的开发提供更多的城建土地，推进深圳城市建设的步伐。
After the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, large-scale urban infrastructure construction was carried out and it started from Luohu District. The low-lying land filled in by the mountain soil provided more urban land for the development of Luohu.
基于上述原因，深圳市委市政府决定挖掉罗湖山。1980年底，罗湖桥北开始移山填湖，经过近一年的艰苦奋斗，罗湖山土化作罗湖区的土壤，罗湖区平均被垫高了1.07米，有的地方甚至被垫高了4米多。
For these reasons, the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Shenzhen Municipal Government decided to bulldoze Luohu Mountain. After nearly a year of hard work from the end of 1980, Luohu District was on the average 1.07 meters higher; some places were even 4 meters higher.
尽管现在人们已经找不到罗湖山的踪迹，但它在深圳改革开放初期的基础建设中起到了不可替代的作用。罗湖山已经化为了深圳人脚下的土地，”托举”着这座城市走向更加美好的未来。
Although Luohu Mountain cannot be found nowadays, it had played an irreplaceable role in the infrastructure construction of Shenzhen in the early days of the city’s reform and opening up. The mountain has become the land under the feet of Shenzhen people, supporting the city to grow towards a better future.
