Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport implemented a differentiated parking fee rule in a move to better utilize its four parking lots starting Monday, a notice released by Shenzhen Airport Group showed.
Parking lots P1, P2 and P3, with a total of 4,446 spots, are regarded as near-end parking lots adjacent to the Ground Transportation Center (GTC). P4, which is 2.5 kilometers from Terminal 3 (T3), is regarded as a far-end parking lot.
Under the new fee standards, near-end parking fees for the first hour is 10 yuan (US$1.57) and will be charged every 30 minutes after the first hour. The charge will be 1 yuan every 30 minutes for those parked between one and two hours, 2 yuan per 30 minutes between two and seven hours, 3 yuan per 30 minutes between seven and 24 hours, and 5 yuan for more than 24 hours. The maximum whole-day parking fee will be capped at 80 yuan for the first day, 90 yuan for the second day and 100 yuan for the third day and beyond.
Based on 2019 statistics, the Shenzhen airport said the new plan will not increase costs for most drivers because 88 percent of them park at the near-end lots for no more than two hours. They will still pay the same 12 yuan for parking within two hours and those parking between 60 and 90 minutes will save 1 yuan compared to parking at the far-end lot.
P4, with 1,186 spots for private vehicles and 561 spots for app-based cabs, will keep the old standard of 10 yuan for the first 30 minutes and 2 yuan per hour beyond that. Vehicles parked over 24 hours will be charged 3 yuan per additional hour after 24 hours. The maximum fee will be capped at 50 yuan for the first day, 60 yuan on the second day and 72 yuan per day on the third and succeeding days.
The near-end parking lots have higher overall fee standards than the P4 lot and drivers can save as much as 88 yuan if they park at the P4 lot for three days.
To encourage drivers to park in the P4 lot, the airport will be arranging free shuttle buses running between P4 and the GTC 24 hours a day.
