Zhu Dijian, Party secretary and vice rector of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU), observed that high-quality development is unachievable without high-quality education.

Zhu made the remarks in a recent interview with Shenzhen Daily.

"Without high-quality development, there will be no Chinese modernization. Without internationalization, there will be no high-quality education. Without high-quality education, there will be no high-quality development in Shenzhen. This is the same as the theme of the Guangdong Provincial High-quality Development Conference," Zhu said.

Zhu emphasized the importance of raising public awareness on high-quality education being closely related with the city's high-quality development. Moreover, education modernization and China's modernization are interrelated.

"As a political adviser, I have been calling for the 2.0 version of Shenzhen Internationalization which represents wider internationalization," Zhu said.

Zhu believes that economic modernization and internationalization have become more powerful through legalization and respect for rules, and there's a good lesson to be learned from economic modernization for modernizing education and internationalization.

As the first Sino-Russian university built on the important consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, SMBU has played an important role in cultivating top talents and produced great results since its establishment.

According to Zhu, when Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin reached the consensus to build SMBU, one of the expectations for the university is to introduce MSU's advantages in basic education and BIT's advantages in applied science in a bid to serve the city as well as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The university thus has introduced basic education and applied science that are closely related to Shenzhen's and Guangdong Province's development strategies.

"This is because the integration of the university and city is a global consensus. It is also a worldwide trend in past few decades that no university can develop independently from the city," Zhu added.

Zhu opines that SMBU's special contribution is cultivating a group of talents engaged in natural sciences who are simultaneously proficient in Chinese, English, and Russian.

"We believe that these talents in the future can serve the country's national development strategies because they are irreplaceable. At present, SMBU is the only university in the world that teaches mathematics, physics, and chemistry in three languages. We will continue to strive to become bigger and stronger," Zhu said.
