With a population density of 8,821 people per square kilometer, Shenzhen's carbon emission intensity is only 0.19 tons. How to achieve green, low-carbon and sustainable development in such a densely populated city? Shenzhen shared its practices during the Shenzhen Session at the ongoing 28th Conference of the Parties to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai.

At the session held Tuesday afternoon (local time), the first of its kind at a COP, Shenzhen shared its experience on achieving green development by advancing green transition through sci-tech innovation, realizing the transformation of economic development momentum, and developing green finance to help enterprises earn funds for green transition.

Additionally, Shenzhen has innovated mechanisms to engage more citizens in green and low-carbon lifestyles to promote the city's progress towards a more sustainable future.

During the Shenzhen Session, the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation released a research report on the low-carbon transformation and development of Shenzhen's emerging industries.

Also, the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment released a white paper on Shenzhen's response to climate change. Tencent released the international version of its TanLIVE, a platform that aims to connect stakeholders of low-carbon technologies.

Shenzhen's top 10 green and low-carbon cases of the year were also unveiled, showing Shenzhen-based companies' role in green innovation development.

At the keynote speech and high-end dialogue session, representatives from international organizations, enterprises and think tanks also shared insights on global low-carbon development and future development trends.

The China pavilion will host more than 100 events on the sidelines of COP28, which is taking place from Nov. 30 to Dec. 12.

Activities focusing on energy transition, digital development, green finance and China’s policies and actions on climate change will be held over nine days with different themes such as the Opening Day, the Youth Day, the Mitigation Day, and the Technology and Finance Day.
