Many rare species were discovered during the first biodiversity investigation in Guangming District, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday, quoting the district’s ecological environment bureau.

The investigation result indicates that the district’s natural ecological environment is gradually improving, providing a good place for the survival of rare species and improving the diversity of protected species.

The district government has made efforts to retain rich biodiversity in nature while building a world-class science town since its establishment.

The district is home to various well-protected rare vascular plants only available in China and some animals under State protection.

To further understand the situation of rare species, the district organized its first regional biodiversity investigation in June 2022, and discovered the living conditions of animals and plants under State protection in Guangming, Guanlan and Luotian forest parks.

As of October, the district had found 12 State-protected species, including two national Level II protected wild plants and 10 wild animal species under Level II State protection.
