‘Portraits’

The subjects of Ye Xiaokai’s paintings are simple — people and scenery. His paintings are easy to understand and it’s easy to feel his concern on daily life from his depiction on a person’s eyes or back or a piece of cloud.

Ye spends most of his time reading in addition to daily artistic creation, adhering to a simple path of art creation.

‘Start From the Land’

Martin Heidegger mentioned his concept of “land” in “The Origin of the Work of Art.” This is the origin of artist Lu Lu’s solo exhibition title. Here, the word “land” not only refers to “earth” or “soil,” but also is the artist’s creative source.

Lu is adept at using materials. From synthetic materials such as paper, canvas, stainless steel, fiberglass, bronze metal, mirror, porcelain and gypsum to natural materials such as flames, ashes, graphite and discarded wood pieces, he enjoys creating art with all kinds of media. In his artworks, the materials not only present a strong aesthetic but also reflect the traces of his deep artistic spirit.

Lu mainly uses black and gray, which gives viewers a feeling of vastness and bleakness. Childhood memories, his hometown, life experience and religious thinking are all among the elements intertwined. He constantly uses artworks to build a stinging and powerful realm with rich spiritual connotations.
