The dance drama “Winter of Peacock” choreographed and directed by Chinese choreographer and dancer Yang Liping will be staged at Shenzhen Poly Theater later this month.
Different from her previous stage depictions of lively peacocks, the peacock played by Yang in this drama struggles for survival when it is about to die. From “Peacock Princess” to “Spirit of Peacock,” Yang always depicts the bird’s vitality and nobility. “Winter of Peacock” is a chapter of her dance series, which depicts the four seasons of the peacock. Debuted in 2016, “Winter of Peacock” shows only the winter season, looking deeply into metempsychosis, or the transformation of life at death into another form of life.
