Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport temporarily closed one of its three runways on Aug. 25 for construction, a move that may affect some flight schedules and increase taxiing times for arriving aircraft.

Runway 16L/34R, known as the airport’s second runway, will remain closed through Oct. 24 while crews build taxiway connections between it and Runway 16R/34L, the airport’s third runway. Safety-related upgrades will also be carried out on the closed runway.
The airport will operate with two runways during the construction period. The reduced runway availability is expected to constrain flight capacity and operational efficiency, according to an airport travel advisory.
Flight schedules during certain periods and the frequency of some routes may be adjusted. Some arriving aircraft may also spend longer taxiing after landing.
The airport said it would work with air traffic control authorities and airlines to optimize flight schedules, aircraft parking arrangements and ground taxi routes to minimize disruption.
Passengers traveling between Aug. 25 and Oct. 24 are advised to monitor updates from their airlines, check the latest status of their flights and plan their journeys accordingly.
The taxiway work forms part of the second phase of the airport’s three-runway development project. Once completed, the new connections will allow aircraft to move between the second and third runways more efficiently.
The airport said the project is expected to improve ground operations and safety while laying the groundwork for future increases in flight capacity.
