Shenzhen recently issued a slew of measures for building itself into an international convention and exhibition capital and aims to boast an annual exhibition area of 10 million square meters by 2025, the city’s commerce bureau said.

The city will roll out high-standard construction of exhibition infrastructures with Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center (Shenzhen World) in Bao’an District and Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center in Futian District as the core, as well as build first-class global venues for expositions.

The city will step up Phase-II construction of Shenzhen World, planning and construction of Shenzhen Technology Expo Center in Longgang, and the renovation and upgrade of Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center.

The measures highlight the three venues’ high-quality cultivation. Specifically, Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center, with its geographical advantage, will host conferences, forums and fairs; Shenzhen World, with its core position, will foster many internationally influential expo projects; and Shenzhen Technology Expo Center is projected to be a multifunctional high-end platform for the launch of high-tech achievements, information exchange, exhibitions and trade shows.

Shenzhen will continue to bring in internationally renowned expositions with strong industrial influence and a significant catalytic role in intelligent terminals, high-end medical devices and new materials sectors.

Each of the newly introduced world’s top 100 business fairs, national top 100 exhibitions and international conferences will be rewarded with 5 million yuan (US$ 790,401), 3 million yuan and 1.5 million yuan, respectively.

High-level professional expos held in Shenzhen covering over 10,000 square meters can each enjoy an annual subsidy capped at 500,000 yuan and a maximum three-year accumulated funding of 1.5 million yuan.

The measures encourage local exhibition operators and host entities to tap into the overseas market by building two to three worldwide famous leading enterprises and supporting key companies to form globally competitive large exhibition groups.

Shenzhen will also strive to attract top-notch overseas and domestic organizations in the sector to establish their headquarters and upstream and downstream enterprises in the city.

Currently, Shenzhen has held several of the country’s key exhibitions, such as the China Hi-Tech Fair, the China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair and the China Marine Economy Expo.
