Pingshan District, located in northeastern Shenzhen and a geometric center of Shenzhen Metropolis Circle, is trying to build an intensive and extensive transportation network to stimulate the district’s development.
In the coming five years, the district will coordinate with the construction of Shenzhen-Shenshan High-speed Railway, Shenzhen-Daya Bay Intercity Rail, and the spur line of Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Railway. Metro Line 14 and Line 16 that pass through Pingshan will be put into operation and Metro Line 19 will be included into the city’s Phase V construction plan.
For the expressway network, Pingshan will speed up the construction of Pingshan-Yantian Passage, Phase II of Outer Ring Expressway, Eastern Cross Border Expressway, and the expansion of West Shenshan Expressway. Phase II of Shenshan No. 2 Expressway, and Phase III of Outer Ring Expressway will be developed in the district.
The Outer Ring Expressway, running about 94 kilometers, is being jointly built by Shenzhen and neighboring Dongguan. The 77-kilometer Shenzhen section of the expressway will be linked to Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway and Bao’an District on the city’s west side, and connected with Yanba Expressway on the city’s east side. It passes through the northern subdistricts of Guangming, Longhua, Longgang and Pingshan districts, as well as Dongguan.
The Outer Ring Expressway will be built in three phases. The 51-km first phase, one of the most important east-west expressways in Shenzhen, has been put into operation.
The second phase of the expressway, with a length of about 9.35 kilometers under construction, will start at Huiyan Expressway, passing Pingdi and Kengzi in the south, and end at Danzi Boulevard. Phase II will be finished in 2022. The 17-km Phase III will start from Jinxiu East Road in Pingshan District and link with Yantian-Baguang Expressway in the east.
In urban road improvements, Pingshan will complete the upgrading of Pingshan Boulevard, Dongzong Road, Jintian Road and 15 other trunk roads.
By 2025, residents in Pingshan will be able to have access to expressways, trunk roads and Metro stations within 10 minutes, and reach Shenzhen CBD, the Shenzhen airport and the checkpoints in 30 minutes and the core cities of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in 60 minutes.
Pingshan is also building a multidimensional bus transportation system that is comprised of 10-minute, 30-minute, 60-minute, and 90-minute commuting circles, and will further improve residents’ commuting experience through the integration of public transport, slow traffic and Metro service systems.
