World’s widest immersed tube installed

A sunken tube numbered E32 is ready to be installed as part of the immersed tunnel of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. The tube was finally put in place in Lingding Ocean at 1 p.m. Monday after 38 hours of continuous work, marking the first immersed tube installed in the east end of the 6.8-kilometer underwater tunnel. The 66,000-ton tube, measuring 53.5 to 55.46 meters in width, is the tunnel’s widest tube. The tunnel, consisting of 32 tubes and a final joint, will be the world’s widest immersed tunnel.
