A total of 107 quarantined grade-9 students in Bao’an District sat for the high school entrance examination, also known as zhongkao, that kicked off Saturday in a makeshift exam venue in Xiashiwei Primary School.
The outbreak of new COVID-19 infections in Shenzhen has led to the lockdown of Fuwei Community in Bao’an’s Fuyong Subdistrict since June 18.
In order to ensure that the affected 107 students can attend the exam, Bao’an District set up a temporary testing venue in Xiashiwei Primary School, which is located next to the community, following discussions with the city’s education authority.
The makeshift exam venue includes 24 testing rooms, with each holding up to nine examinees, 17 quarantine testing rooms and seven backup rooms, according to the site’s exam staff.
After zhongkao, another 171 quarantined grade-8 students will go to the venue for the junior middle school academic proficiency test this afternoon.
It is said that all examinees at Xiashiwei Primary School were escorted by special members of Fuwei’s epidemic prevention and control team via vehicles to the exam venue so as to ensure safety.
Citywide, there are 168 zhongkao venues. All zhongkao takers and their family members living with them, in accordance with relevant protocols, were required to take nucleic acid tests within seven days prior to the test.
Senior middle schools in Shenzhen plan to enroll a total of 95,000 students this year.
