Shenzhen will see heavy rain today, with rainstorm in parts of the city. The rainfall is expected to last until tomorrow, the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said yesterday.
Sunny and cloudy weather will return Thursday and continue during the May Day holiday, from May 1 to May 5.
The temperature is forecast to climb to around 30 degrees Celsius during the holiday. Showers might occur by the end of the holiday.
Forest fire risks are high in early May. Residents have been given fire warnings in their homes and in outdoor areas.
Shenzhen has been affected by drought since November last year. The drought has lasted for 127 days. Starting mid-May, the city will see more rainy days.
A total of five rounds of rainfall will pour in May. The heavy downpour, known as dragon boat rain — a reference to precipitation around the Dragon Boat Festival, is expected to arrive in late May and June, according to information released by the observatory.
Residents are advised to be careful of wet and slippery roads and poor visibility caused by the expected rainy weather starting mid-May.
