The Architecture Design and Research Institute of South China University of Technology has won the design competition of Guoshen Museum, one of the 10 cultural facilities in Shenzhen.
Located at Qianwan, Qianhai, the 3.5-billion-yuan (US$540 million) museum covers an area of 32,300 square meters with a floor space of 120,000 square meters.
Upon completion in 2025, it will be a modern and comprehensive State-level museum and world-class public cultural facility that integrates cultural education, architectural art and cutting-edge science and technology.
The judging panel, consisting of nine well-known experts in architecture, planning, arts, exhibition and transportation from home and abroad, thought the winning design manifests Chinese cultural confidence and reflects regional and coastal features of Qianhai. The design signifies Chinese civilization, inheriting the cultural genes of the National Museum of China and highlights the coastal and urban area of the city.
Qianhai authority chose five invited design companies and 10 from 67 companies in the preliminary contest for the review and selection.
Ten candidates were shortlisted to participate in the final contest and three designs were preferred. The design of the Architecture Design and Research Institute of South China University of Technology won the top prize.
