Three teams won the top prizes at the 2020 National Artificial Intelligence Competition on the tracks of AI + Wireless Communications, AI + Remote Sensing Image and AI + Pedestrian Recognition that ended in Shenzhen on Monday.

The competition, initiated in August and organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Science, Technology and Innovation Commission, Shenzhen Pengcheng Laboratory and New-generation AI Industrial Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, attracted 6,413 contestants from the Chinese mainland and 72 overseas contestants from 13 countries and regions.

Of all the contestants, 60 percent were students from universities and others were employees and researchers at enterprises and research institutions.

Among the contestants entering the semifinal, 80 percent of them are 20-29 years old, and 56 percent of them hold master’s or doctorate degrees.

In October 2019, Shenzhen had been chosen as a pilot area to develop new-generation artificial intelligence by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The pilot area for AI innovation application was also inaugurated in the city during the 21st China Hi-Tech Fair.
