Shenzhen will add more than 100,000 senior high school places in five years and will cooperate with a batch of prestigious senior high schools in the country to build one or two world-famous high schools in Shenzhen, announced by the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau on Wednesday.
Guangdong Experimental High School and the High School Attached to Northeast Normal University have decided to open schools in Shenzhen and will start enrolling students next year.
Shenzhen added 6,047 public senior high school places last year. Public schools such as Shenzhen Experimental School, Shenzhen Foreign Languages School and Shenzhen Senior High School have built their senior high school campuses in Guangming, Longhua and Pingshan districts.
Shenzhen will have 93 public senior high schools with space for 216,500 students by 2025. The city plans to add and expand 27 public senior high schools from 2021 to 2022 to add nearly 60,000 school places.
The enrollment rate for public senior high schools will reach around 53 percent by 2022. The shortages of school places, especially public senior high school seats, have been one of the top concerns of Shenzhen residents.
The number of additional school places between 2023 and 2025 will be some 50,000, with the public senior high school enrollment rate to reach 56 percent.
While adding more school places, Shenzhen has been improving education quality. A total of 32 senior high schools in Shenzhen have been selected as national demonstration schools in Guangdong Province.
Shenzhen will build Shenzhen Normal University and Shenzhen University of Technology and Education to cultivate more teachers in the future.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Shenzhen will consider building online cloud schools to share more high-quality education resources.
