A data-based smart transportation platform jointly developed by Didi Chuxing and the Longhua District Government has helped the district reduce traffic accidents by 41.2 percent and violations by 35,441 year on year in the first three quarters of 2020, an expert said at a forum of 2020 China Transportation Society Annual Conference that ended in Shenzhen on Saturday.

The two sides have been in partnership since October 2019. The monitoring system enables transportation and traffic police authorities to know the real-time traffic situation in the district and handle hidden perils to traffic safety efficiently and in a timely manner.

“Based on the data, the system can not only trace back the traffic situation in the past 24 hours, but also predict the complicated traffic scenarios and provide traffic guarantees on major occasions,” Gu Jingyan, the leading transportation expert of Didi Chuxing, said at the forum.

Didi, the world’s largest mobile transportation platform, launched an integrated solution for smart city traffic management, nicknamed “Didi Smart Transportation Brain” in January 2018. It has been used in more than 30 cities in China.

By integrating Didi’s robust anonymized traffic data, and data resources from local governments and business partners, the system facilitates real-time data leveraging cloud computing and AI-based technologies to provide cities with a range of transportation infrastructure improvements, including traffic flow measurements, smart traffic signals, reversible lanes, and traffic management programs for maintenance scheduling and system assessments.

At Saturday’s conference, a smart parking system developed by the Shenzhen Urban Transportation Planning and Research Center won first prize in the category of science and technology.
