Shenzhen has become the focus of Chinese mainstream media Tuesday with an outpouring of high praise surging across media platforms.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, Shenzhen has ushered in its first anniversary of building the city into a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

State media, such as the People’s Daily, China Media Group, Guangming Daily and Economic Daily, on Tuesday highlighted the practices Shenzhen has adopted to undertake its new mission over the past year.

An article about Shenzhen was given a prominent position on the front page of the People’s Daily.

From the aspects of high-quality development, business environment, urban civilization, people’s sense of happiness and ecological environment, the article explains in detail that Shenzhen has been working hard to push ahead with the city’s development with new actions, new measures and new aspirations.

Xinwen Lianbo, a daily news program produced by the State broadcaster China Central Television, decodes Shenzhen’s practical actions and achievements in deepening reform and opening up and building a pilot demonstration area with more than four minutes of coverage.

According to the report, Shenzhen’s economic resilience and foreign investors’ attraction to the city are evident. The city’s GDP in the first half of 2020 topped 1.26 trillion yuan (US$181 billion), up 0.1 percent year on year.

Nearly 2,000 overseas-invested companies were set up in Shenzhen in the first half of the year. The actual use of overseas capital exceeded US$4 billion from the January-June period, up 5 percent year on year.

Shenzhen’s practical actions in creating a law-based business environment and its relentless efforts in optimizing government services have also come under the spotlight.

An article published in the Guangming Daily pointed out that over the past year, Shenzhen’s reform measures have been more in-depth, the pattern of opening-up has become more prominent, the driving force for innovation has increased in strength, and the lives of residents have become better.

According to a report in the Economic Daily, Shenzhen is striving to explore modernized urban governance and sustainable development, and to create a new model of urban civilization.

Another two Chinese media outlets based in Guangdong Province, including the Nanfang Daily, and Yangcheng Evening News, also published reports that think highly of Shenzhen’s efforts in building a pilot demonstration area on key pages Tuesday.
