Open data applications displayed in contest

A host of innovative open data applications were showcased at an achievement-sharing event of the 2020 Shenzhen Open Data Innovation Contest (SODIC) at Shenzhen Talent Park on Saturday night, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.


The contest is aimed at collecting innovative application solutions and algorithm models based on open data from universities, professional research institutions and data analysis companies all over the world.


Participating projects cover a variety of fields, such as sci-tech applications in the fight against COVID-19, social governance, environmental protection, cultural and tourism products, intelligent education, 5G, and Internet of Vehicles.


According to Wang Yaowen, deputy head of the Shenzhen Municipal Government Services Data Bureau, SODIC aims to further unleash the value of data and empower Shenzhen in terms of urban governance and people’s livelihood services.


It will also serve as an important platform to promote the city’s scientific and technological innovation, data development and industrialization of digital economic achievements, Wang said.


The contest is hosted by the Shenzhen Municipal Government Services Data Bureau and Nanshan District Government, and co-organized by the Nanshan District Government Services Data Bureau and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.


In order to further promote the sharing and utilization of data resources and speed up the construction of a smart city, the city’s government services data bureau has submitted draft regulations on data to the city’s justice bureau for review, according to the Daily.


The justice bureau is currently soliciting public opinions on the draft rules on its official website. The concept of data and data rights are defined in the draft for the first time.
