Huaqiangbei, a well-known technology trading district in Shenzhen, one of China's largest electronics markets, reported a 35% increase in revenue during the Chinese New Year holiday season compared with the same period last year.

The surge follows a wider push to promote "Guangdong goods" to global buyers.

Sales of tech products have been particularly strong. Over the past two months, overall technology sales rose by more than 30%. AI-powered smart glasses saw sales jump by 70% to 80%, while drones and robots recorded growth of between 30% and 50%.

The area has also attracted a growing number of overseas visitors. Local authorities say more than 7,000 foreign buyers from 183 countries and regions visited during the holiday, with international visitors making up a much larger share than a year ago. Daily footfall in the district reached around 750,000 people.

Hotels near Huaqiangbei reported a 35% rise in bookings, with average occupancy at 80%. The proportion of foreign guests has doubled.

Often described as the heart of China's consumer electronics trade, Huaqiangbei ships more than three million parcels a day, with products sent worldwide.

Travel data also suggests Shenzhen is becoming a popular entry point for international tourists during the holiday season.
