Typhoon Wutip, the first typhoon of the year, has formed over the central-western waters of the South China Sea. A round of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast to affect Guangdong from June 13 onwards, bringing much-needed relief from the ongoing heat.

The typhoon is expected to move northwestward at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour while gradually intensifying. It is likely to make landfall around June 13 as a severe tropical storm or typhoon. Guangdong activated a Level IV emergency response for typhoon preparedness at 10 a.m. on June 11.

On June 12, Qingyuan, Shaoguan, Shanwei, the southern Pearl River Delta, and western Guangdong will experience scattered thunderstorms, some accompanied by short-term gales reaching 8 to 10 on the Beaufort scale. Other areas will remain mostly cloudy with isolated showers. Maximum temperatures will range from 29°C to 32°C in southern coastal areas and 33°C to 37°C elsewhere, with some parts of northern Guangdong reaching 38°C.

From June 13 to 15, widespread heavy rainfall is expected, with localized torrential downpours. Offshore winds will strengthen as the typhoon approaches.

Authorities urge the public to prepare for strong winds, thunderstorms, and possible secondary disasters, including urban flooding, landslides, and flash floods. The typhoon's track and intensity remain uncertain, and residents are advised to follow the latest weather updates.
