The Fifth Oriental Cup Chinese Calligraphy Competition for Foreigners kicked off at the Shenzhen Oriental Art Gallery in Futian District yesterday afternoon. The contest is collecting calligraphy works from now through Sept. 20.
Expats working, studying or living in China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) and holding a valid and legal visa or residence certificate are qualified to participate in the competition.
The contest is co-organized by Futian’s publicity department and Shenzhen Oriental Art Gallery, and funded by the Special Funds to Promote Cultural and Sports Development of Futian District.
The contest serves as a platform for cultural exchange between Chinese people and international communities.
Zhong Fanfei, founder and chairman of Shenzhen Oriental Art Gallery, said that over the past four times the competition has been held, many foreign friends with outstanding calligraphy skills stood out with their marvelous works. She also expressed her heartfelt thanks for the foreigners who stayed in or came back to China, despite the global ravaging of the COVID-19 pandemic that poses huge barrier on global travel.
The organizing committee of the competition will review the works submitted and select one first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes, 20 honorable mentions, and three special honorary awards.
An award ceremony will be held in November and prizewinners will receive a prize of 10,000 yuan (US$1,555), 5,000 yuan, 3,000 yuan and 600 yuan, respectively. The special honorary award winners will be presented trophies, rather than prize money.
