Shenzhen ranked as the fourth most attractive city for talents among Chinese cities, according to this year’s attractiveness report of Chinese cities that was jointly released by zhaopin.com and Zeping Hongguan.

Of the top 100 Chinese cities attractive for talents, Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai ranked as the top three. Shenzhen took fourth place, and is followed by Guangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, Chengdu, Ningbo and Changsha.

The city’s attractiveness for talents is judged on several indicators in the categories of the proportion of inflow of talents, college graduates and talents with master’s degrees and above, the per capita dispensable income and the percentages of the net population inflow.

The report showed that 60 percent of talents flow to five city clusters in China, namely the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Chengdu-Chongqing region and the city cluster along the middle reaches of Yangtze River, which considers Wuhan, Changsha and Nanchang as central cities.

Beijing was crowned as the most attractive city again after the ranking in 2016, thanks to the economic recovery offering advantageous salaries and more vacancies at public institutions and enterprises. Hangzhou advanced to the No. 2 spot.

The report showed the net talent flow in Shenzhen increased to 1.3 percent in 2020 from 0.1 percent in 2017. About 43 percent of talents flowing to Shenzhen came from Guangzhou, Beijing, Dongguan, Shanghai, Wuhan, Changsha, Huizhou, Chengdu, Foshan and Xi’an.

The reasons for the inflow of talents were mainly the faster economic development of the city, attractive policies and well-known brands that are based in Shenzhen like Huawei, Tencent and Ping An.

Since 2016, the city has offered 15,000 yuan (US$2,334), 25,000 yuan and 30,000 yuan in one-off housing rental subsidies to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree holders, respectively. For academicians, local leading scientists and high-caliber talents, the city has given subsidies of 3 million yuan, 2 million yuan and 1.6 million yuan, respectively.
