Guangming District, located in the northwest of Shenzhen, has evolved through three key stages: farm, new area, and administrative district. In 1958, Guangdong Province established the Guangming State Farm. In 2007, Guangming New Area was officially created. In February 2018, the State Council approved the establishment of Guangming District, which was formally inaugurated on September 19 of the same year.
As Shenzhen's youngest administrative district, Guangming administers six subdistricts — Guangming, Gongming, Xinhu, Fenghuang, Yutang, and Matian — comprising a total of 37 communities. The district spans 155.38 square kilometers and is home to approximately 1.159 million residents, including around 243,300 registered household residents.
