Students in Grades 4-8 in Nanshan District are scheduled to return to school Wednesday, while students in Grades 1-3, as well as preschoolers will return April 15, an official from the Nanshan District Government said at a press conference yesterday.

Li Wei, director of the General Office of the Nanshan District Government, said that the district will closely monitor the health of all local teachers and students before they return to school.

Teachers and students who have lived in lockdown, control and prevention areas and have traveled to medium- and high-risk areas for COVID-19 in the last 14 days will also have their status updated.

Each school is responsible for appointing special staff to verify that all teachers and students meet the requirements for returning to school and register according to a negative list.

According to Li, Nanshan has thoroughly sorted out the white list of on-campus staff in schools and kindergartens at all levels.

On the first week back to school, students, teachers and other school personnel are required to take nucleic acid tests on a daily basis, with one nucleic acid test every two days starting on the second week. The test should be taken every day by logistics personnel, teachers and students in prevention areas.

Li said that Nanshan has also set up 40 epidemic prevention and control supervision groups to inspect schools before teachers and students are back at their respective campuses. Any problems found during inspections must be rectified the same day.

In addition, the district will monitor each student’s mental health and provide various forms of psychological counseling.

Nanshan, which is home to nine universities and colleges, will learn about the difficulties faced by universities and colleges as teachers and students return to school, and will provide full support in resolving the issues, according to Li.
