Shenzhen continued its hold on first place in the country in terms of foreign trade, according to the list of China’s top 100 foreign trade cities released by the magazine China Customs, quoted by the Nanfang Daily.
In addition to Shenzhen, three other cities in Guangdong, namely Guangzhou (3rd), Dongguan (4th), and Zhuhai (7th), were included in the top 10 foreign trade cities.
The magazine suggests that as Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-speed Railway and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge have opened and the development plan of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has been implemented, foreign trade in the Pearl River Delta has shown growing momentum.
Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Dongguan and Zhuhai have been traditionally strong in foreign trade, and continued to show solid growth.
In face of the COVID-19 pandemic and international trade friction, Guangdong still maintained its momentum in foreign trade. In the first half of this year, Guangdong’s total import and export value was 3.06 trillion yuan (US$438 billion), down 7.1 percent from the same period last year.
The decline rate in the first six months narrowed by 1.7 percentage points compared to the rate for the first five months.
In the second quarter of this year, the year-on-year decline in Guangdong’s imports and exports narrowed to 3 percent.
