A medical worker collects a citizen’s swab sample for nucleic acid testing at Jinghua Community in Futian District on Sunday. Over the past few days, people could be seen working outdoors in different places across Shenzhen like construction sites, parks and nucleic acid testing sites despite the sweltering heat that has descended upon the city. Outdoor workers in Shenzhen are eligible for a monthly high temperature allowance of 300 yuan (US$45) from June to October each year, according to local labor regulations. When the maximum temperature reaches 39 degrees Celsius, all outdoor work must stop.
