Li Xiaolong, one of the city’s political advisers, suggested that Shenzhen need a chance to host a world-class cultural/ sports event to show the world a better city image at a meeting discussing the government work report Monday.

“Hosting a large-scale event will expand the city’s development space, upgrade the city’s urban infrastructure, boost its urban governance and enhance citizens’ sense of belonging,” Li said.

During the meeting held Monday, other political advisers also put forward suggestions on the city’s medical and health systems, carbon emission management and shared bike management.

Ma Xiaopeng, president of Shenzhen Children’s Hospital, proposed a better integration of hospitals and schools and looked forward to seeing more innovative treatment methods for children’s diseases.

Yang Hongyu, a political adviser from the city’s health sector, advised that more efforts should be put on basic research and higher education to attract more national clinical centers to settle in Shenzhen as the city has seen improved medical services.

As the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) is critical for the accomplishment of the country’s carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals, political adviser Zhang Wei suggested a smart platform be built to achieve a dynamic calculation of the city’s carbon emissions.

Regarding the management of shared bikes, political adviser Zhao Xiaoshan suggested a supervision platform be built to include information of all bicycles from all bike-sharing brands to achieve smart shared bike management, handle unused shared bikes in a timely manner, and reduce “higgledy-piggledy” placings.
