Shenzhen's senior high schools on Friday opened for 10th and 11th grade students who met health requirements, by following strict COVID-19 protocols.

Over 1,000 10th and 11th grade students returned to Shenzhen Experimental School Senior High School Department on Friday.

The school’s 11th grade students were divided into three batches to return to the campus starting 8 a.m. while the 10th grade students were in three batches to return starting 2 p.m., according to the school.

Personnel were seen checking students’ health information and their body temperatures at the school entrance, disinfecting students’ luggage, and helping students transport their luggage to dormitories.

At present, RDFZ (High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China) Shenzhen School has required students to wear a mask in the campus’ teaching areas and to disinfect or wash their hands before entering canteens.

A senior high school student surnamed Xiao from Shenzhen Xin’an Middle School said that distance learning is fine but is less efficient than in-person learning, adding that her plans after the comeback is to consolidate learned knowledge before making further study plans.

Regarding those who are unable to return at the moment, Xin’an school has communicated with the students via phone to comfort and offer them guidance on blended teaching, according to the school.

The city’s 9th grade students will be returning to campus today while those in other classes of primary and junior high schools will return to school starting this week based on each district’s arrangements.

Given the city’s current epidemic situation, Longgang District delayed the return day for kindergarten students to April 18 from the original April 13, said the district education authority yesterday.

The Yantian District campus epidemic prevention and control task force also announced in a statement released Saturday that the district’s off-campus training institutions are still suspended until further notice.
