Artist breathes new life into traditional culture

Visitors admire artworks from Hunan artist Tao Qingyou during an exhibition at the Futian Art Museum on Sunday. The exhibition, which will run through Jan. 12, displays over 240 of Tao’s works created in recent years while exploring the ancient culture of the Western Regions. From the Han Dynasty (202 B.C.-220 A.D.) to the middle and late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the vast areas both north and south of Xinjiang’s Tianshan Mountains were called the Western Regions. Tao has helped rejuvenate traditional culture through modern transformation by combining ancient culture with contemporary art expressions.
