The bridge is expected to open to traffic before the end of this year.

Work on the arch of a bridge over the Huangmugang Comprehensive Transport Hub was completed Thursday.

This move laid a solid foundation for the completion of the bridge, China’s first long-span steel box arch bridge that is built atop a Metro station. The bridge is expected to open to traffic before the end of this year.

The bridge is 289.9 meters long, with its main arch spanning 125 meters, is on the top of a seven-story transport hub and is supported by concrete and steel pillars mounted on the transfer beams of the underground Metro station. The bridge is an important project of Huangmugang Comprehensive Transport Hub’s construction.

The hub serves the existing Line 7, the under-construction Line 14 and the future Line 24. Line 14, which extends 50 kilometers, will run between Gangxia North Station in Futian and Shatian Station in Pingshan. It will be put into operation before the end of 2022. The east-west Line 24, which is under planning, will run 32.8 kilometers between Qianhai and Luohu, passing Shenzhen Hi-Tech Industrial Park, OCT, Huangmugang and Bagualing.

In another development, Shenzhen Metro Group is speeding up the construction of Qinahai Comprehensive Transport Hub under the transit-oriented development mode that utilizes underground and on-the-ground land resources.

The Qianhai hub, located in Guiwan area, will have six floors and cover 20 hectares. Metro lines 1, 5, and 11 and two intercity rails will go through the hub. The hub is expected to handle 750,000 passenger trips a day once it is put into operation at the end of 2024.
