Panda Bus, the first driverless bus in Pingshan, was put into operation on the route between the office buildings of DeepBlue Technology Co. Ltd. and Shenzhen SZLMCU Technology Co. Ltd., reported to be the city’s first route for driverless buses.

Residents can make reservations for free rides by scanning the QR codes at the bus stops.

The bus is equipped with dozens of sensors, divided into six different types, that can feel the road conditions, and detect different objects on roads including vehicles, pedestrians and animals.

The bus is also powered with a high-performance AI algorithm that can judge, plan, control and decide the operations of the buses during the whole process.

Display screens were installed on the back of the seats, through which riders can choose to watch multimedia content. Interior cameras inside the bus can judge and analyze any abnormal behavior including theft, smoking and falling down, record physical features of the perpetrators, and can broadcast an alarm and help confront the problems in a prompt manner.

Released in August at a forum on the development of Internet-based vehicles, Pingshan introduced three demonstration routes for driverless buses.

Earlier this month, Pingshan signed an agreement with Huawei Technologies to set up a 5G-based demonstration platform for testing driverless vehicles and innovate the development of the automobile industries.

Under the cooperation deal, the two sides will build an advanced demonstration platform for the intelligent Internet industry. Pingshan was the first district in Shenzhen to promote 5G technologies.

Based on the industrial infrastructure and resources of Pingshan, Huawei, by leveraging its professionalism and advantages in intelligent Internet, will pilot and popularize its core technologies in intelligent connected vehicles, cultivate professionals in the sector, build an intelligent connectivity ecology that integrates research, testing, manufacturing and demonstrative operations, and improve Pingshan’s competitiveness in intelligent connected vehicles.

In three years, Pingshan will be a State-level demonstration area of intelligent connectivity. Its demonstration platform will be seamlessly connected with the State central nodes. It will explore the digitized road grading and standards systems in the subtropical climatic situations, and provide cooperation mechanisms for 5G-based coordinated driving, remote driving, and a multi-signal, coordinated decision-making system that connects with vehicles, roads, Internet and the cloud.
