Shenzhen Metro will extend service for an hour for 17 days during the 40-day Spring Festival transport season.

During the pre-festival period, the Metro operator will extend service hours between Monday and Jan. 19 to meet the holiday rush demands.

Service hours will also be extended between Jan. 26 and 30, as well as during the post-festival period between Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 to meet the surge of returning travelers, according to a plan released by Shenzhen Metro Group yesterday.

In addition, half-way final trains on eight routes will extend service time by 30 to 40 minutes. Services will extend for 40 minutes for Line 1 from Luohu to Qianhaiwan stations and from Airport East to Zhuzilin stations, and Line 11 from Gangxia

North to Songgang stations. Services will extend for 30 minutes for Line 3 from Shuanglong to Huaxin stations and from Fubao to Tangkeng stations, and Line 5 from Huangbeiling to Changlingpi stations and from Chiwan to Changlingpi stations.

Other half-way final trains will also extend service time by 30 minutes on lines 6, 7, 9 and 10.

At transfer stations with railway stations and the airport, which experience heavy passenger flow, the Metro operator will tighten guidance and cooperate with bus companies and the airport to ensure smooth transit among travelers. The operator also reminded travelers to wear masks when aboard the Metro.

The Spring Festival transport season started Saturday and will end Feb. 15. Police estimated around 600,000 vehicles a day will be running on the city’s expressways during the period, up by 20% year on year.

The peak of vehicles leaving the city will start tomorrow and last until the night of Jan. 19. The city’s traffic police department will tighten inspection and control on expressways, at transport terminals, and on roads around business centers and tourist attractions to ensure smooth traffic, according to a release from Shenzhen traffic police bureau yesterday.
