Metro Line 16, which is scheduled to open today, shows brilliant craftsmanship in its designs, and provides convenience for passenger transfers.

The 29.2-kilometer line has 24 stations and runs from Universiade Station in Longgang District to Tianxin Station in Pingshan District. It will pass through Universiade Town, Longgang and Pingshan CBDs, serving as a backbone line that connects the city’s two districts in the east.

Huanggekeng Station in Longgang District will have passengers from lines 16, 10 and 21 interchange at the same platform level through the “double cross” transfer designs.

The major structures at Universiade and Technology University stations adopted a pillarless vault structure to create more open public space for passengers.

The design also limits the impact of firefighting facilities over the vault structure, enabling passengers to feel more freedom in limited spaces.

The design of Shuanglong Station, close to the urban renewal area, seamlessly integrates the station with the neighborhood, creating a public space through a sunken square, sightseeing staircases and walking corridors.

Pingshanwei Station, which is close to the Pingshan River Sightseeing Corridor, adopted an integrated design and formed a public space connecting the Metro station with parks, commercial and residential areas.

At the Longcheng Park Depot, a cultural and sports park was built over it, and paintings and graffitis on the depot walls showed the Hakka enclosed dwellings, Dawan Ancestral Residence and Zhang’s Lantern, an intangible culture heritage, and rich local cultures.

Among the 24 stations, 18 were designed with Hakka cultural elements. The line will pass through three Hakka cultural landmarks, namely Dawan Ancestral Residence in Pingshan, Longgang Hakka Folk Customs Museum and Datian Artisan Work Culture Village in Longgang.

Five Metro lines have been put into use in Shenzhen in 2022, with its total network reaching 559 kilometers after Line 16 is put into operation today.
