Shenzhen reported four new locally transmitted cases of COVID-19 this morning, according to the municipal health authority.

All of the new infections were detected in routine nucleic acid tests of the key risk groups and in the citywide screening of close contacts and secondary close contacts of the infections confirmed earlier. A preliminary investigation showed that the four new cases belong to the same transmission chain of the other four infections in the city reported since Friday.

According to a statement released by the health commission this morning, case 5 is a 51-year-old man who works in Longgang District, while cases 6 and 7 are females aged 72 and 77, respectively. The three cases are family members and they live in Hewei Village in Caopuxi Community in Qingshuihe Subdistrict, Luohu District.

Case 8 is a 27-year-old woman who works in Longgang District. She lives in Bantian Subdistrict, Longgang District and is a close contact of the second case of the latest local COVID resurgence.

The four new confirmed cases have been transferred to the emergency wards of the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen for treatment. Their neighborhoods and workplaces are placed under lockdown, while screening of their close contacts and secondary close contacts are under way.

No further information regarding the new infections is currently available.

Residents are reminded to strengthen personal precautions against the virus by wearing face masks properly, washing hands frequently, maintaining good ventilation, avoiding crowded places and observing social distancing.
