The 23-year-old Buji Seafood Market in Luohu District will be closed starting Saturday to give way to the construction of the Sungang Link of Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Railway, local media reported yesterday.

A temporary alternative site for the market will be arranged for vendors and their businesses, a notice by the Buji Seafood Market Management said.

The Sungang Link is an extension of Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Railway that will connect high-speed trains between Xili Station and Shenzhen Station.

For the construction of the link, 3,300 square meters of the seafood market will be occupied and 36,000 square meters of structures in the area will be dismantled.

Work on Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Railway was officially initiated in 2016.

The 436-kilometer high-speed rail line, with an estimated investment of 62 billion yuan (US$8.87 billion), will cut the trip from Shenzhen to Ganzhou in Jiangxi Province to two hours when it becomes operational in 2021.

The railway runs about 300 kilometers through Guangdong, passing the cities of Heyuan, Huizhou and Dongguan and ending at Xili Station in Shenzhen. The rail line will form part of a longer proposed high-speed rail link to Nanchang in Jiangxi and will be connected with Xiamen-Shenzhen High-speed Railway to provide access to coastal Fujian cities.

It is part of the Beijing-Hong Kong passage, one of the eight vertical lines of the country’s railway network of eight vertical lines and eight horizontal lines.

The Sungang Link is also part of Shenzhen’s rail network backboned by three major stations and supported by four auxiliary stations.
