As Typhoon Talim moved away from Shenzhen yesterday, Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory downgraded its alert level from yellow to blue for some areas in Shenzhen at 6 p.m. yesterday.
The areas covered Yantian District, Dapeng New Area, the Pearl River estuary, Shenzhen Bay, Dapeng Bay and Daya Bay.
The maximum wind gusts in Shenzhen were forecast to range from level 8 to 9 last night and the city was expected to be affected by frequent downpours. The local meteorological observatory advised the public to remain vigilant, stay away from coastal areas and stay updated with the latest weather reports.
Meanwhile, airline companies canceled 105 flights departing from and arriving in Shenzhen yesterday due to Typhoon Talim, a source from Shenzhen airport said.
The airport reminded travelers to keep monitoring the flight information today as some more flights could be canceled or delayed depending on the weather condition.
Typhoon Talim, the fourth typhoon of the year, was moving northwesterly and was expected to make landfall along the coast between Dianbai and Leizhou in Guangdong Province last night.
Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory reminded residents that there will be heavy rain today. It will be cloudy with occasional showers tomorrow and Thursday.
On Saturday night after the tropical depression had been reinforced into Typhoon Talim, the Shenzhen oceanic law enforcement team rescued a tourist vessel that lost power in the sea about 1 kilometer off the Jiaochangwei beach in Dapeng New Area. A total of 12 tourists were rescued to safety.
Hainan has suspended high-speed train and flight operations due to the typhoon starting from Sunday. All bullet trains departing from Haikou East Railway Station and Sanya Railway Station have been temporarily suspended and the high-speed trains operating on Hainan Roundabout Railway were also suspended operations yesterday. Regular trains in and out of the island province would remain suspended until Friday, the railway authority said.
Haikou Meilan International Airport has also suspended flight services.
