Shenzhen's power load reached 21.42 million kilowatts at 1:47 p.m. Monday, hitting a record high, according to Shenzhen Economic Daily.

The new record is about 1.04 million kilowatts higher than the historic high, with a 5.12% increase rate.

To ensure stable power supply, China Southern Power Grid Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau implemented a series of measures, wherein the branch currently deploys 560 personnel to check on power supply equipment at residential compounds and urban villages each day. This also helps avoid equipment shutdown due to overloaded operations.

As sweltering temperatures continue to grip the city, the highest power load is expected to show up by the end of this month or at the beginning of next month, according to Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau.

Citizens could report power breakdown issues via the WeChat account of

“南方电网95598” (csg-95598).

In another development, the city’s automatic weather stations recorded its highest temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius at Shuanglong in Longgang District on Sunday afternoon, the highest record in July as well as the third highest record since automatic weather stations were put into use in the city, according to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.

Shenzhen Municipal Meteorological Observatory issued an orange alert for high temperatures Saturday. This round of high temperatures might last through this month or the beginning of next month, meteorologists said.
