Tunnel boring work on Chunfeng Tunnel along Chunfeng Road in Luohu District has progressed halfway for about 2 kilometers and will be completed in June next year.
Connecting Binhe Road in the west and Xinxiu Overpass over Yanhe Road in the east, the 5.08-kilometer tunnel project includes open-road sections in the east and west, and an underground section in the middle.
The contractor is using the largest domestically made slurry shield boring machine, measuring 135 meters long and 15.8 meters in diameter, for a 3.6-kilometer section of the project. Tunnel work has progressed at a rate of about 5 meters a day.
Upon the tunnel’s operation next year, it will greatly improve the traffic situation on Chunfeng Overpass, transport officials said.
The two-story tunnel for east- and west-bound vehicles will form a dimensional traffic corridor with Chunfeng Overpass. It will be Shenzhen’s first single bored tunnel with a double-decked interior, providing four vehicle lanes and two emergency lanes.
The municipal transport bureau’s construction center is currently pushing forward with the construction of 27 major infrastructure projects including Yantian Port East Overpass, Hengping Road renovation, Yantian North Comprehensive Parking Garage that will be completed within this year.
