The renovation of Meiguan Expressway will be completed before the end of 2024 and 35% of the project has been completed, an update recently released by the city’s transport bureau showed.
The expressway is being expanded into an urban south-north trunk road with eight lanes and six auxiliary lanes from its current two-way six-lane configuration.
The renovation, covering 7.97 kilometers, starts from the former Meilin Tollgate in the south and ends at the intersection of Shiqing Boulevard and Qinghu Overpass in the north. Meiguan Expressway’s connectivity with the nearby roads will be doubled after the renovation is completed, according to the bureau.
In 2022, the city also planned to start the renovation of Yantian-Baguang Expressway, Longhua-Dalingshan Expressway, Nanshan-Guangming Expressway, the northern section of Meiguan Expressway from Qinghu Overpass to Guanlan Tollgate.
A list of the city’s major projects in 2022 released by the Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission showed the expansion of the south-north Longhua-Dalingshan Expressway will be developed into three sections by Shuilang Overpass to the Dongguan border.
Section A from Shuilang Overpass to Fenghuang Overpass will be expanded into eight lanes from the current six. Section B between Fenghuang Overpass and Loucun Overpass will be relocated toward the west and two tunnels will be built. Section C in the north will also be expanded and more entry and exit ramps will be built to enhance its connectivity with nearby roads.
This year, the bureau will also initiate the construction of two viaducts at Guangqiao Overpass, part of Phase I of the Longhua-Dalingshan expansion project, which aims to enhance southern Guangming District’s connectivity with the rest of the city.
The bureau planned to build more auxiliary lanes along Yantian-Baguang Expressway’s six-lane mainline and add entry and exit ramps along its five sections. The added ramps will be helpful for diverting vehicles in heavy traffic, especially during holidays. The bureau will also renovate the road, bus and slow traffic networks along the expressway.
