Application for Shenzhen government rewards to catering enterprises has opened, over a month earlier than initially anticipated.

The incentive program was originally scheduled to open July 1, but was moved to May “so that the city’s catering enterprises can enjoy the benefits brought about by the government’s relief efforts,” according to a notice issued by the municipal commerce bureau earlier this week.

The bureau released an application guide for government rewards to wholesale, retail and catering businesses April 22, as part of the city government’s efforts to promote consumption and boost support for businesses that have taken a hard hit during the COVID-19 epidemic.

As per the award program, eligible catering enterprises will receive a 50,000-yuan (US$7,429) reward for every 10 million yuan in main operating income in the first half (H1) of this year, with a maximum reward of 1 million yuan per company.

However, catering enterprises can now apply for the rewards based on their main business revenue between January and April. If a catering enterprise applies for and receives rewards for the first four months, it can still apply for financial incentives based on its operating income in H1, although the reward for the first four months will be deducted from the total amount.

The bureau has reminded eligible entities to submit their applications via the website http://www.gdzwfw.gov.cn/ before May 23.

Meanwhile, application for venue rental subsidies for professional exhibitions has also started.

The subsidies will be given to local companies that have organized fairs in Shenzhen’s professional exhibition halls between Nov. 1, 2020 and Dec. 31, 2021 as the city government moves to offer financial relief to the convention and exhibition sector.

Professional fairs refer to activities of promoting products, services and information exchange, which are convened at fixed or designated venues over a designated time period. The events must have professional exhibitors and visitors, with exhibits limited to one or a few related industries.

A 2-yuan rental subsidy will be provided to eligible convention and exhibition events per square meter every day. For events covering 100,000 square meters or less, the cap on subsidized areas will be at 30,000 square meters, and a 50,000-square-meter cap will be given to projects covering more than 100,000 square meters.

The deadline for the application is May 31.
