Construction is under way on three new cultural facilities in Longhua District, with the project scheduled to be completed in 2025, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday.
The project is one of 245 new construction projects launched in Shenzhen in the first quarter of this year. It is located in the Luhu Central City area, one of Longhua’s six key areas.
After four months of planning, construction on the three new cultural facilities, which consist of a library, an art center and a grand theater, began April 18. The facilities are expected to diversify residents’ cultural activities after completion and operation.
The project covers about 48,000 square meters in area and about 184,000 square meters in construction area. It forms a compound with the grand theater, art center and library stretching from north to south, with four floors above ground and two floors underground.
A 1,400-seat large theater, a 600-seat medium theater, a 399-seat small theater, a 300-seat lecture hall, and an international conference hall are among the features of the project, which also includes service areas and an underground garage.
Studio Link-Arc and CCDI, two architectural consulting firms, collaborated on the project’s design scheme. It stood out in an international competition for urban design and conceptual architectural schemes of public buildings in Longhua’s Luhu sci-tech and cultural area, and was shortlisted for a World Architecture Festival award.
