Shenzhen Metro Line 12’s first train recently arrived at the Airport East depot, laying the foundation for its official operation, which is expected to begin at the end of this year, according to the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau.

Metro Line 12’s trains will be driverless, with top speed reaching 80 kilometers per hour.

The line will run roughly 40.6 kilometers with 33 stations, linking Bao’an and Nanshan districts, running between Zuopaotai Station in Nanshan and Wetlands Resort Station in Bao’an, passing Nanshan CBD, Bao’an CBD and Fuyong, greater airport and exhibition and convention center areas in Bao’an.

The line will feature wireless charging at the first and last carriages of its trains, providing convenience to passengers.

It will also include 59 sets of railway turnouts, the largest number of turnouts in Phase IV of the Shenzhen rail transport project.

So far, 98 percent of Line 12’s major structures have been completed and 26 out of 27 stations under construction have been topped off.

In another development, a project that suspended Metro Line 3’s service was completed a day ahead of schedule. Work on a rain shelter at the Dayun comprehensive tansport hub was originally planned to be conducted from Jan. 1 to 3, with Metro Line 3 services suspended between Tangkeng and Shuanglong stations.

However, it took only 48 hours to hoist the 164-ton main rain shelter and Metro Line 3 resumed the whole line’s service a day ahead of schedule.

The Dayun comprehensive transport hub, which covers a 60,000-square-meter floor area, will be put into use by the end of 2022. It will serve as a transit station for Metro Lines 3, 14 and 16, as well as the Shenzhen International Airport-Daya Bay Intercity Railway.
