Shenzhen education authority is seeking public opinion on further enhancing labor education among university, secondary and primary school students.

Students should acquire basic working capability for livelihood and individual development, and form good working habits through labor education, said a national guideline released last year.

The bureau floated a relevant proposal, pointing out that secondary and primary schools should set up at least one class per week on average.

Schools are also required to organize students to practice at vocational schools or practice bases for one to seven days each year.

In addition, it is suggested that the city will build 100 after-school labor education bases, 100 demonstration schools for labor education, cultivate 100 star labor education teachers, and develop a series of labor education courses by 2025, according to the proposal.

Meanwhile, vocational colleges should set compulsory courses about labor, with at least 16 class hours. Other universities should incorporate labor education into current courses. Undergraduate students should study at least 32 class hours for labor education-related courses.

Labor education for students in first, second and third grades is mainly to enable them to take care of themselves in daily life and understand that everyone needs to work. Meanwhile, for those in fourth to sixth grades, the education centers on helping others with campus activities and their parents with household affairs.

The main content of middle schools is learning about household affairs, basic living skills and starting the initial phase of vocational education.

High schools will focus on enriching vocational experience, and carrying out practices on work skills. Labor education at vocational high schools will be based on professional characteristics to enhance professional skills.
